Our organization consists of a parent corporation, RAMA, i.e. the "Retired Active Men's Association", and seven branches which are located between Paso Robles and Santa Maria California. Unlike many men's organizations, the RAMS is not steeped in tradition. We do not have ranks or levels, nor do we have initiations or rituals.
Our branch meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month, in the morning, at which time we have a sumptuous Breakfast, and plenty of time for socializing. Time to catch up on what's happened with our friends during the last month, as well as time to meet other members and establish new friendships. And, although our meetings are rich with such activities as the Pledge of Allegiance, an Invocation, recognition of Anniversaries and Birthdays, and a 50/50 Raffle, the highlight of our meeting is the Speaker. Our speakers are chosen from some of the most respected companies, and organizations, in our community, such as the local Television Station, the local Hospital, Civic and Financial Organizations, Public Utilities, and City and County Management.
Membership Application
If you're not a member and you'd like to join, please do one of the following:
- Print a copy of the Application Form, fill it out and send it to the address in the lower left corner, or bring it with you when you join us at our next meeting;
- Be our guest and look us over. Just walk in and say that you visited this site, that you liked what you saw, and that you would like to be our guest. Our Greeters will greet you, they'll get you a Nametag and an Application, and they'll even find you a seat.
- In the event that you do not have printing capabilities, please call the number in the lower left corner of the Application and a form will be sent to you. Then merely follow the instructions in step number one above.
Patriotism
Not to be confused with Politics, Patriotism ranks very high amongst the RAMS. Every meeting begins with a hearty tribute to the RAMS, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Many of our members are veterans of the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and yes even World War II. We're extremely honored to have these brave and courageous men as members of our outstanding organization. But, we're not the only ones who are proud of them.KCOY TV produced a 2008 Memorial Day tribute called "The Voices of our Fathers", which was narrated by the Evening News Anchor Drew Sugars. Each and every veteran who was interviewed, for that production, was a member of the Santa Maria branch of the RAMS.
Needless to say, "Old Glory" will Always wave for the RAMS!
Faith
No meeting of the RAMS would ever be complete without a few comforting and inspirational words from a man of the cloth. And although these words of wisdom may come from a Catholic, a protestant, a jew, or a person of any other religion, his religious preference is of no importance. The only thing that matters is that we take solace in thanking the deity, of our choice, for the fact that we are physically able to attend these gatherings, and that we are mentally capable of contributing to their festivities. For those of us who are fortunate enough to reach the age of retirement, we need to be eternally grateful. And what better place to do that than with an assembly of men who share in that experience.The chaplain, as we will call him, will always have a special place in the hearts of RAMS!
